'L' Africa is poor, Africa is ill, Africa is underdeveloped, Africa is no water .... "
All things are true, but do not tell the whole story of this continent. Especially do not do justice to those local realities that come out with true entrepreneurial skills from a situation where they are crushed and not asking for charity, but proper training, instruments and financial resources. The LVIA wants to promote this Africa, made up of administrators and technicians, cooperatives, artisans and small entrepreneurs who are committed to not ask for more in the future.
The water in the valley of the Niger
The area is semi-desert in northern Mali in the Niger River flows like a blue stripe of life. As soon as you move away a few miles however, the water for humans and animals is scarce and life becomes very difficult, especially in the hottest season, which looks forward to the short rainy season.
Due to lack of local technicians trained and equipped with instruments suitable work, the majority of existing water points are not working or are in a dilapidated condition and are exposed to bacterial pollution.
River Niger
The Mali to Niger through the more than 1,600 kilometers. Along the way supplies water to the crops of rice, millet and maize. In the region of Gao on the river makes possible the coexistence of many different ethnicities. By Bozo, semi-nomadic fishermen living in small islands and along its waterfront, the Songhoi sedentary farmers and growers of small farmland, from nomadic tribes of Arabs in the wake of their livestock, Tamasheq, the Tuaregs of the desert. In the dry season
Niger retires strictly regulating the lives of people, relief and drying farmland, creating conditions that aggravate and exacerbate the cohabitation. With the rainy season, out of his bed, the river returns to power, wealth and serenity waiting. Comes alive with hundreds of thousands of migratory birds, changing colors and shapes, making his people as his due, as a blood pact, a promise kept. From day to day, however, desertification, population growth and the careless management of resources puts a strain on the ability of the river in providing the resources necessary for life. The WWF warns that "are fundamental operations that will bring the Niger to its naturalness, with the restoration of ecosystems, and thus management practices that increase plant cover and reduce soil erosion, which will restore the wetlands. With strategies and concrete type to use regional and sustainable development of river basins and their unique resources can be maintained viable and productive ecosystems, are able to continue providing their services to local populations. " Only a rational and responsible support would help Niger to continue to honor "his" engagement with "his" gente.Il project involves in particular the towns of the region of Gao, and between Ansongo Bourem, overlooking the River. The area is characterized by a strong presence of nomadic peoples and a desert territory. Often tensions arise between farmers and farmers to manage water resources that are aggravated when the rains are scarce, reducing grazing and forcing the nomads to radically change the customary routes in hopes of protecting their livestock.
Objective: To empower local communities
Helping communities of the Niger River is giving them a hand so that they become autonomous in the management of water resources. Do that so that all local stakeholders (administrators, technical services, cooperatives, families) draw with their 'water policy', which enables them to promote self development initiatives in the water sector to solve their problems. In practice this means: proper training technical means funds
The logic is not that of almsgiving: after adequate training of all stakeholders, the project includes the construction of a water fund, which is accessed through notice. Municipalities should examine their needs, write plans and submit only the best will be funded. The mechanisms and criteria used will be equal to those of the European Union in bids for funding local or international, in order to accustom the Community to seek funds for financing without the support of International NGOs. Once funded micro-projects, the team will follow the LVIA local structures that have obtained financing in the implementation phase of projects to ensure the acquisition of skills, the real enhancement of their capacities, the actual implementation and impact obtained on the population
